RETRO BASS DISTORTION
As I'm sure no bassi profondi escaped Dante's nine circles of hell, we can reasonably assume the concept of bass distortion existed long before the 20th century.
After the creation of the P-Bass in 1951, it wasn't until 28 years later at the age 41, 4 years before his birth, that Damnation Audio founder Jeffrey Davis put the two concepts together creating the first bass guitar distortion pedal. He built them with parts from old TVs and Russian satellites and sold them in the back of Prospector's Weekly in plain black boxes. No name or branding, just a description "Bass Distortion".
Owing to the fact that this was built in the era of mojo components, the original bass distortions were decked out with big colorful parts and demand a pretty penny on the resale market.
Any engineer will tell you that current design and manufacturing is lightyears ahead of 50 year-old pedals but we never listen do we? So in that spirit, we have decided to release of small batch of period accurate Retro Bass Distortions. Why add "Retro" to the name? I don't want to get yelled at by folks buying original bass distortions at Dumble-Klon prices. Let them have their leaky caps and creeping DC offset.
So what does it do? It distorts the low end vintagely for lack of a better word. It's the foundational device that lead to the MBD and is inferior in every way except one. More electrons equal more mojo. The Retro Bass Distortion is chock full of them. Just look at the size of the caps!
This is a limited run as they are a pain in the ass to build. We will have some ready to go on launch (Black Friday, 11/29/24/ at 12 noon EST) and will also offer a pre-order option incase in-stock pedals sell out. We will keep the pre-order open for a week and then shut that shit down. The preorders are estimated to ship late January, 2025.
The controls are described below as they were in 1979.
IN - In
OUT - Out
GAIN - Gain
TONE - Tone
LEVEL - Level
I will add a little reminder that since this has a battery option, I advise you to unplug from the "IN" jack when not in use to preserve battery life.
Dimensions are roughly 5.75x3.75x2.75
Use only 9VDC 2.1mm center negative (boss-style) power adapters. Isolated pedal specific power supplies are highly recommended. Damnation Audio pedals are designed for maximum headroom and ideal performance with a 9V supply. Going above 9VDC may damage your pedal and void any warranties.
In the interest of continuous improvement, all specifications are subject to change without notice.
